Does the SCOTUS Want to Kill Us?

Extreme court explodes EPA climate regulations

I planned to write about Trump’s January 6th attempts at dictatorship, but this morning’s news dropped a bigger bombshell. The extremist Supreme Court ruled against the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) authority to regulate greenhouse gas emissions from power plants. This comes on top of a new imagined right of concealed gun carry that will undoubtedly increase gun murders. It is becoming clear just how atavistic this court is with an agenda to eliminate government regulation, except as it applies to their extremist social values. It almost feels like the Supreme Court wants to kill us.

Deregulation applied to pollution laws during this short crucial time when we have only a few years to bring climate change under control will cause future destruction of many habitable regions of the earth from drought and severe weather, killing forests and ocean life, melting polar ice and raising sea levels, causing massive socially disruptive human and animal migrations as they try to escape uninhabitable regions, killing segments of the human population, and accelerating animal extinctions. The imbalances in the ecosystem could be so severe that essential natural processes, such as bee pollenation required for plant life and water availability required for all life, may be so disrupted as to turn major regions of the planet into barren wastelands. In short, the effects of severe climate change caused by an extreme Supreme Court may kill us, our children, and our grandchildren. Whether there will be much left of human society after that is anybody’s guess.

Now that you are cheered by that glimpse into an unregulated future, I hope you are primed for action to reverse this court’s influence before they have any further opportunities to advance their insanely destructive agenda. What can we do?

  • Impeach Trump’s justices for lying under oath when they testified before Congress during confirmation hearings that Roe vs Wade was settled law and then immediately reversing themselves and voting to strike it down after they were confirmed. Regardless of your views on Roe, they clearly perjured themselves and can be removed from office for doing so.
  • Pack the court — Biden could simply appoint more liberal justices as FDR did in the 1930s and change the rules by which the court operates. This will require eliminating the filibuster in the Senate to ensure Biden has enough votes to approve court changes.
  • Vote for Democratic or progressive candidates in every office to give the progressive agenda greater authority, especially in Congress where any Supreme Court alterations would have to be approved.
  • Protest! Get out into the streets and onto the internet and the airwaves to stand against the decisions of this court! Demand change! Make our representatives sweat until they take action to move government in a more progressive direction.
  • Keep reducing fossil fuel use. The effort to produce cleaner power from renewable energy sources and reduce our own pollution does not depend on government regulation. We can continue to support non-polluting power projects and replace our aging cars and small engine devices with low or no emission versions.
  • Electrify your home. Electric appliances are more efficient than gas and better for indoor air quality. As the grid gets greener, so will your home.
  • Vote for carbon taxes. Gradually raising taxes on carbon exhaust outputs will gradually encourage the shift away from carbon-based fuels and can help fund implementation of clean energy alternatives.
  • Live more simply. Look at everything we do and try to find ways to reduce pollution and consumption. The more goods we buy and consume, the more we contribute to pollution from manufacturing and transportation.
